Solinst Canada Ltd. has released a “mini” version of the company’s Model 800 Low Pressure Pneumatic Packer.

In a release, the company calls its packers “ideal for temporarily isolating discrete zones in wells or boreholes for short-term groundwater monitoring and sampling applications.”

The new Model 800M Mini Low Pressure Pneumatic Packer is 1-foot-long and designed to fit in 2-inch OD monitoring wells. The 800M is available in single or straddle packer setups. Solinst says the 800M is inexpensive, simple and extremely portable, adding that it is a “must-have” tool for any hydrogeologist.

The Model 800M Mini's small, lightweight (1.2 lbs.) design means minimal weight is added when connecting to Solinst pumps for isolated low flow groundwater sampling applications.

Solinst says the 800M Packers help when isolating groundwater sampling zones to reduce purge volumes, when isolating multiple, shorter intervals (e.g., during aquifer testing), or for conducting falling head K tests.

Depending on your application, operators can easily lower packers down well using a drop pipe or a suspension cable, like the Solinst Model 103 Tag Line. Solinst Packers consist of a gland of black carbon reinforced rubber (BCR), which expands on a Schedule 80 PVC body. The PVC body has an inner pipe for lowering monitoring instruments through. Model 800M Mini Packers allow for for pneumatic inflation at pressures up to 30 psi and are inflated with a hand pump.

Standard Model 800 Low Pressure Packers are also available in 1.8-inch and 3.9-inch diameters in longer lengths for 2- and 4-inch monitoring wells or smooth boreholes and wells with 1.9- to 5-inch inside diameters.

Solinst Canada Ltd. has served clients in the groundwater and surface monitoring sectors for more than 40 years. The company offers a range of loggers, peristaltic pumps, samplers and other equipment for hydrogeologists, hydrologists and other water professionals. For more information, visit
