Boart Longyearis celebrating its 125thanniversary with the launch of The Boart Longyear Hall of Fame. The concept, coupled with a story sharing campaign, gives employees recognition and allows them to share their perspective.

“Our celebrations this year are dedicated to the people who built, and continue to build, our fine company. The Boart Longyear Hall of Fame is a way we will recognize the outstanding achievements and contributions of past and present employees.” says Kent Hoots, senior vice president of Boart Longyear.

The company calls the recognition the highest honor that can be bestowed on employees. It welcomes nominations of people that have significantly impacted the company or the mining industry while embodying Boart Longyear’s values including safety, ethics and good citizenship, Hoots says.

Nominations of past or present employees with more than 10 years of company service are being accepted until August 2015. Qualifying achievement categories include drilling productivity, leadership, engineering, innovation, environment, health and safety.

The first inductees to the hall of fame are company founder Edmund J. Longyear and his son, Robert Longyear, former company president. They were recognized at the PDAC Convention.

In addition to the hall of fame, the company is celebrating its 125th year in business with the launch of its Share Your Boart Longyear Story campaign, also open to employee insight.

“We believe Boart Longyear’s 125-year history is best told by the people who created it,” Hoots says.  “The campaign has uncovered some incredible pieces of history so far including rare video footage of Longyear Australia drilling in Bouganville Island in the 1970s, and photos of Edmund J Longyear as a university student in the early 1800s.”

Boart Longyear, based in Salt Lake City, touts itself as the world’s leading provider of drilling services and equipment, and performance tooling for the mining industry. The company has more than 9,000 employees worldwide, manufactures equipment in six global factories, and sells to customers in more than 100 countries. For more information, go to
