What 2025 Taught Me About Change, Community, and the Future of Drilling

And just like that, 2025 is coming to an end - and wow, what a year it’s been. This one really put our industry to the test. The geotechnical and environmental sectors in Ontario faced major uncertainty, and it’s been a tough year for small businesses, owner-operators, and the folks out in the field. Personally, this year challenged me too, just in a different way.
I spent a lot of time reflecting on my career: where I started, where I am now, and where I want to be in the next five years. Looking back over the past eight years feels surreal. I began as a Fleming College drilling student, worked my way up to running my own rig, and eventually into project management with an amazing team of drillers.
These last three years have taught me so much - new skills, new perspectives, and incredible opportunities both on the job and through my association work, thanks to the support and flexibility I’ve had in management.
My passion for drilling and this industry keeps growing, but I found myself craving new challenges and continued growth. Leaving a management role wasn’t easy - especially since, ten years ago, that was exactly where I wanted to be. But things change, and I was ready for what’s next. That’s why my new role with KB International as the Canadian Sales Representative has reignited my excitement for the future of drilling.
Transitioning into this position has been fantastic. One of the biggest skills I’ve developed is blending my technical background with sales. My hands-on drilling experience helps me connect with clients and crews to create real solutions. Much like managing drill teams, this role allows me to support others as a technical specialist - helping them use products that make their days safer, easier, and more efficient. I’m proud and grateful for the chance to stay in the field, keep learning, and see new parts of our industry firsthand.
Another highlight of 2025 has been my work with the Ontario Ground Water Association and the National Drilling Association. Both groups continue to go above and beyond to improve the drilling industry for current and future generations. Connecting with people across companies, regions, and disciplines has reminded me just how strong our community really is. Having a network that truly wants to see you succeed - whether it’s during a career change, a new project, or when you just need advice - has been my secret weapon.
That support has guided me to where I’m finishing 2025: optimistic, motivated, and ready for 2026. I’m looking forward to more connections, more knowledge, and more opportunities to make meaningful change in this industry we all care about.
And if you ever feel like you’re going it alone, just remember - there’s always someone cheering you on. Like me! Feel free to connect on LinkedIn or Instagram. I’ll always be up for talking all things drilling.
We can’t predict the trajectory of 2026, but I’ve got a good feeling it’s going to be a successful one.
