Boart Longyear Wins Safety Award for Injury Rating of Zero
Saskatchewan Mining Association Honors Boart Longyear Drillers
Boart Longyear’s drilling team in Saskatchewan has been selected to receive a 2014 SMA Safety Award from the Saskatchewan Mining Association (SMA).
“This is a significant accomplishment for Boart Longyear, and it’s another example of the good outcomes that can result from the efforts of operational and safety teams living and breathing safety as a culture,” says Boart Longyear General Manager of Drilling Services North America, Terry Kirkey. “We are proud of our team’s dedication to safety and congratulate them on this prestigious industry award.”
The company’s safety first approach to drilling helped the drillers achieve an injury rating of zero. The SMA rating is the result of calculating Lost Time Injury (LTI) and Modified Work Injury (MWI) frequency rate, then adding 10 percent of the LTI and MWI severity rate.
Boart Longyear’s safety first drilling efforts aim to keep workers from experiencing injuries and illnesses, while protecting the environment from incidents.
