Mass transit boring begins in New Jersey
If you’ve ever seen the film Oceans 13, the scene where the crew of thieves use a massive ride-along boring machine to create a fake seismic event is etched into memory as one of the best parts of the film.
It would appear that the same style of machine is coming to the Northeast as residents in both New York and New Jersey might feel the rumble soon as it embarks on one of the largest mass transit projects in years. Earlier this week, officials assembled in North Bergen, N.J., to announce the start of the Gateway tunnel, a 10-mile stretch that will connect the town as another underground arterial into Manhattan.
Here’s what they’re saying about it, where it will run, and how long the boring is expected to take.

The higher meant the burning primarily of fossil fuels like petroleum, and coal. States like Kentucky and West Virginia among others were the leaders there, while Vermont led the way as one of the cleanest, boasting a large majority of its power deriving from cleaner sources like solar, wind and even geothermal.
