DFI Names Bermingham Innovation Award Winner
The Deep Foundations Institute named the Thermal Integrity Profiler as the 2013 winner of the C. William Bermingham Award for Innovation.
Foundations & Geotechnical Engineering LLC of Plant City, Fla., and Pile Dynamics of Cleveland developed the Thermal Integrity Profiler (TIP) following research conducted at the University of South Florida. In a release, the DFI said the TIP is “unlike any other system of assessing quality and integrity of cast-in-place concrete foundations.” The device uses the heat generated by curing cement to assess the quality of drilled shafts, bored piles, augered piles, and drilled displacement piles.
The C. William Bermingham Innovation Award pays tribute to the innovative spirit of past DFI President Bill Bermingham. The winning individual, company or team receives $5,000 to recognize contributions to the DFI and the foundations industry. The group formally presents the award at its annual Conference on Deep Foundations, which this year was Sept. 25-28 in Phoenix.
