IGSHPA Continues to Grow

By Greg Ettling
January 3, 2011
The 2010 Conference & Expo of the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association was held Oct. 27-28 in Denver. The show reflected the industry’s growth with an impressive depth and breadth of educational offerings.

The 2010 Conference & Expo of the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) was held Oct. 27-28 in Denver. The show reflected the industry’s growth with an impressive depth and breadth of educational offerings.

Especially inspiring was the increased attention given to the drilling aspects of this burgeoning market. Of nearly 100 exhibitors on hand, nearly one-quarter were directly related to drilling equipment, tools and systems. The trade show floor, which was made available to the public, was open a total of 16 hours, giving visitors ample time to take in all the latest industry offerings.

Educational programs also included more drilling-related topics and presenters. The “Driller’s Town Hall” sessions were particularly popular, including the “How to Profit in Drilling Loops,” seminar, put on by Greg Wells (Jackson & Sons Drilling, Mansfield, Ohio). Wells covered the keys to profitability in the vertical drilling market based on bidding, costing and pricing procedures.

Dozens of other educational seminars covered a wide range of applicable topics including technology updates, best practices, design and performance issues, installation techniques, sales and marketing, and research and development. There were nearly 40 seminars in all.

For drillers looking to expand their horizons, this event offered an excellent introduction to a fast-growing field with a lot of upside.

A lot of time, effort and resources go into putting on these meetings, and the companies that step up and provide sponsorship are to be commended. This year’s sponsors:
  • AWES Supply
  • ClimateMaster Inc.
  • Colorado Geo Energy Heat Pump Association
  • enerG
  • Enertech Manufacturing LLC
  • Enlink
  • FHP-Bosch Group
  • Geo-Enterprises Inc.
  • GeoMaster LLC
  • GeoSmart Energy
  • ISCO
  • Major Geothermal
  • National Driller
  • UNO’s
  • Worldwide Drilling Resource
Mark your calendars: The 2011 conference and expo takes place Oct 5-6 at the Tulsa (Okla.) Convention Center. Connected to the convention center is the Double Tree Hotel ($130/night, includes parking and breakfast; 800-838-7914).
