NFL quarterback gifts AC to Philly schools
Earlier this month, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts made a $600,000 gift to upgrade the HVAC system at a local Philly high school. It was one of 52 schools in the district that doesn’t have air conditioning. It’s likely that this will be fitted with a traditional system, but with so many schools in the system devoid of a proper heating and cooling system, could geothermal, specifically geothermal exchange be the answer?
Traditional systems which tend to be separated where a geothermal exchange system offers both heating and cooling. It’s a system that could solve plenty, without having schools districts like Philly and beyond rely on the good graces (and deep pockets) of athletes.
U.S. still slow in switch away from fossil fuels
Last week, Sierra Club, the environmental watchdog organization released its latest “Dirty Truth Report” and what was inside was surprising. The group gave 76 of America’s biggest companies an overall grade of F when it came to the transition from being reliant on fossil fuels to clean energy options.
According to the report, some of those same companies have actually fallen behind on initial goals to transition into clean power at the start of the decade. The biggest fallback? AI data centers in which the Sierra Club suggests that 25% of the demand for electricity is fed by having to power massive data centers, with the electricity from the plants that power them slated to be generated by fossil fuels.
