Arthur E. Becker, MGWC, CPG, has received the National Ground Water Association’s (NGWA) 2016 Standard Bearer Award for outstanding volunteer involvement in the legislative process. He is also being honored with its new Fellow designation for outstanding credentials, professional accomplishments and commitment to promoting the increased understanding of groundwater science and water well system technology.

“Water well technology and contracting were the beginning of Art’s association with the industry and NGWA,” says Daniel T. Meyer, MGWC, CVCLD, CPA, Gregg Drilling & Testing Inc. “Having started as a contractor in New Jersey, Art built a successful business providing services to environmental engineers. This also led him to NGWA in the early ’90s when we (contractors, engineers, manufacturers) were all looking for knowledge and guidance.”

Becker is owner of Drilling and Safety Consultants LLC in Manahawkin, N.J. As a part of his involvement in the legislative process, in addition to his serving as NGWA president in 2011, he:

  • Attended the NGWA Legislative Fly-in in 1999, 2004-2006, and 2008-2013
  • Contributed to the NGWA-PAC in 2005-2006, and 2009
  • Participated in the NGWA Standard Bearer grassroots letter-writing program
  • Served on NGWA’s Government Affairs Committee, Superfund Task Force, and External Relations Council

On Becker’s being among the first of five chosen to receive the new NGWA Fellow designation, nominator John W. Pitz, CPI, president of N.L. Pitz Inc. in Batavia, Ill., said, “Art is the consummate groundwater professional. His knowledge, skills, experiences, and leadership are unsurpassed. His willingness to share and educate reflect his commitment.”

In addition to his volunteerism in the legislative process with NGWA, Becker has served on numerous other Association boards, committees and task groups including the Contractors Division Board of Directors, National Ground Water Research and Educational Foundation Board of Directors, Professional Designations Oversight Committee, Developing Nations Guidelines Task Force, and Well Decommissioning Task Group.

Becker will receive both awards during NGWA’s 2016 Groundwater Week Dec. 6-8 in Las Vegas.
