Three Liebherr drilling rigs, including one LB28-320 and two LB 36-410s, have been selected to carry out challenging foundation work for Keller Grundbau GmbH. The engineering company has been assigned to complete a decommissioning project for an EnKK center in Neckarwestheim, Germany. The high-efficiency rigs are using the Kelly drilling method.

The work started in April and was completed in September.

The machines installed the pile foundations for the waste disposal facility. In addition to single drilled piles with a diameter of 1.20 meters and a depth of 20 meters, a drilled pile wall was erected. The piles were in cohesive soil, cased at the final depth and inserted between 2 and 4 meters in hard rock.

The foundation work involved drilling depths up to 12,000 meters. Each drilling rig produced three piles per day, a total of approximately 60 meters of drilling.

“The leader adjustment of more than 1 meter provides a huge advantage, especially when positioning the machine in front of the drilling hole and when changing the tools,” says foreman Juergen Schutte.
