On the Job: Slurry Wall for D.C. Hotel Project
Ground engineering for a large hotel facility is underway.
Due to its experience in slurry wall construction, TREVIICOS, managing partner of the D.C. Slurry Joint Venture, is executing an important contract in Washington, D.C. to build the foundation of the new 1,000-room Mariott Marquis Hotel. The hotel will be constructed next to city’s main convention center on Massachusetts Ave., to which it will be linked via an underground passage. TREVIICOS’ job is to build the slurry walls around the perimeter for a total of 172,000 square feet (96 panels measuring 36-in.-by-42-in., with an average depth of 116-130 ft.). TREVIICOS’ contract includes the installation of 21 tiebacks along Massachusetts Ave., and drilling 142 shafts. Among other challenges, the project involves working around the Pepco power station and several underground live power cables. In addition to the other equipment on-site, TREVIICOS is using a Soilmec SC 120 fitted with a Soilmec-built Cougar hydromill.
