A new paper, “Multiphase Modeling of Geologic Carbon Sequestration in Saline Aquifers,” is now available. The review paper, recently published by the National Ground Water Association (NGWA), covers carbon sequestration in saline aquifers to mitigate climate change.
“I consider this a seminal paper that offers a treasure of information and references related to the modeling of carbon dioxide entrapment in deep saline aquifers,” says Hendrik Haitjema, editor-in-chief of Groundwater, the technical journal it is slated to appear in.
The 19-page paper can be viewed now using Wiley Online Library and will appear in Groundwater in May. It is co-authored by Karl W. Bandilla, Michael Celia, Jens Birkholzer, Abdullah Cihan and Evan Leister. All of the authors are experts in carbon sequestration.
“The Groundwater paper represents an excellent overview of possible model concepts for the modelling of geologic carbon sequestration in saline aquifers,” says Rainer Helmig, who will cover the topic in an upcoming National Ground Water Research and Educational Foundation (NGWREF) lecture series. “It provides a profound insight into different model concepts and how efficient they are for carbon capture and storage in saline aquifers.”
