In 2002, I was contracted by a religious organization in Virginia to teach cable tool well drilling to the Navajo people in northeastern Arizona. They commissioned me to locate a 22-W Buckeye drill and tools, purchase it and have it shipped to Tonalea, Ariz.

In my last several columns, I have written about selecting the proper openings for a water well screen and some popular installation methods. One thing we must do, however, before installing the screen is equip it with the proper fittings. Screens purchased from a manufacturer or supply house are not going to work as is (with a couple of exceptions).
I must start this column with some sad news. I learned this morning that the Canadian Ground Water Association has ceased operations. This is a sad and bad deal for drillers everywhere.
Last month, I wrote about fishing for tools that were loosely lodged in the drill hole or perhaps for a bit wedged into the casing shoe by a stone, pebble or what have you. This month, we are going after a string of tools that is really stuck for whatever reason, and either contains no drilling jars or the drilling jars have become stuck.
