All drilling contractors have had projects that force a tactical change. In episode 102 of Ask Brock, host and drilling trainer Brock Yordy advises a driller on having to switch to mud rotary from reverse circulation on a 400-foot, 17-inch well project.

“We can build a fluids program around what,” he says.

In this case, he says it’s important to account for factors like the amount of material you’re removing, and adjust fluids accordingly as you add rods.

“I know this is all possible because we’ve run mud rotary all over the world and been successful,” he says. “Reverse is great, but the most available tool that can get our job done successfully and safely, and make us money, is the best tool to use.”
