John R. Flint Sr., described as an icon in the drilling industry, passed away Dec. 14, 2012, at the age of 69.

 

Flint managed the Drilling Supplies division of Central Mine Equipment Co. His work with CME began in 1970. He left the company in 1977, and started ASCOR (auger, soil and coring) with Dick Hesskamp. In the mid-1980s, we went on to form DEPCO with Don Turner. Later, Flint joined DESI, where he worked until rejoining CME in 1998.

 

Flint was recognized as an expert in the drilling supply and well completion industries. He prided himself on helping his team fill customers’ needs with tooling or supplies for the specific job at hand. Flint was also known for offering free advice to customers with questions.

 

Colleagues said Flint also had a great sense of humor and was always quick to smile. They called him a “true gentleman” who will be missed by his immediate family, as well as by the large network drilling industry professionals who knew him.

 

Flint is survived by daughters Diana Lynn (Mark) Perkins, Paula (Bill) Lowerly; sons John R. Flint Jr. and John (Tara) Kruse and 17 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Ginger, daughter Lori Richmond, brother George John Flint and sisters Joan Mae Zinger and Bonnie Jean Randour.
