The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality recently awarded $1.2 million under its Water Quality Improvement Grant Program to support 10 nonpoint source pollution control projects statewide. Successful applicants must provide 40 percent in matching funds to implement projects intended to improve and protect water quality by controlling nonpoint source pollution. Projects receiving awards in the current funding round have such goals as eliminating sedimentation in waterways caused by erosion and runoff from roads, implementing best management practices to reduce contaminated runoff, and replacing poorly functioning septic tanks.
