Tremblers Caused by Tunneling
Officials in San Jose recently announced that suspected earthquake activity near the city was not being caused by earth movement. Seismologists discovered the readings on their testing instruments indicated the epicenter to be 300 feet deep, 40 feet wide and 220 miles long. Plotting of the readings indicate that the source of the earthquake scare is a tunnel being drilled from Kern County in the Bakersfield area to the San Luis Reservoir near San Jose. Kern County Water Bank officials say the tunnel was being constructed to eliminate loss of water due to evaporation in the California Aquaduct.
