Everyone can use to brush up on the basics of solids control, right? Well, drillers, today on Ask Brock, episode 115, host and drill trainer Brock Yordy holds takes us through solids control 101.

“Solids control starts at the bit face,” Yordy says.

It’s all about creating the right size cuttings and finding the sweet spot for uphole velocity to keep those solids intact on the way out of the hole. He goes into three types: pit, physical (cones and mud pan) and mechanical (like a solids control unit). He also discusses the importance of mud weight, among other topics.

“It’s about removing all solids, not just big solids that look cool,” he adds.
