Danbar Drilling Services Ltd., Wigan, England, recently completed a geothermal project in western Wales. The project was for 24 330-foot boreholes. The ground conditions on site were siltstone with sandstone bands. Drilling progressed quickly and efficiently on the site; Danbar’s crew completed the boreholes, installed the loops and grouted the holes in 17 days. The crew was able to drill 330 feet in 2 hours. The crew also had to contend with extreme weather conditions; there was heavy snow and freezing temperatures for most of the time on site. The site was even closed for 2 days, and the project still was completed 2 weeks ahead of the planned time.
