San Diego water officials recently announced the find of an extremely large underground water basin just west of San Diego. Early estimates indicate that this 500-foot-deep basin appears to contain in excess of ten million acre feet of fresh water and is apparently fed by an underground river flowing parallel to the coast. The basin was a surprise find by a Navy seismograph ship during test drilling in the shallow ocean bed of Point Loma.
San Diego is filing an immediate claim to the water and plans to become a major exporter of water to cities in the southern part of California. Although the find was a surprise, the most exciting part of the discovery was that the water in this newly found basin will require no processing before being delivered to customers. The water contains absolutely no salt contamination and is naturally chlorinated.
