North Carolina 811, who we are and what we do

North Carolina 811, a non-profit organization funded by its member facilities, takes locate information from
anyone engaged in excavation activities. An excavator may include contractors, utilities, and homeowners. The
information about proposed excavation is transmitted to the member facility owners that provide service in the
requested excavation area. Our mission statement is; "To provide an efficient, affordable communication
network service of the highest industry standards to contractors, utilities, and the general public for the purpose
of requesting location of buried utilities prior to excavation activities in the interest of promoting job safety and
damage prevention."

Treating North Carolina Water

This Session will describe, discuss and analyze the variables of ground and municipal water in the state of
North Carolina. The character and quality of Carolina water, from geologic and private testing, will be
described and compared with EPA standards and with the typical standards and expectations of homes and
business. For each character requiring improvement, the treatment technology will be described and a cost
estimate will be offered. The speaker will address the latest treatment technologies including various membrane
filters, high efficiency softening, hybrid DI and ultraviolet light. Areas of current research and future
applications will also be addressed. The intent of this forum is to expand awareness of members regarding the
opportunities in water treatment.
