The drought gripping South Florida may ultimately cost water managers more than the $11.5 million it cost them to deal with Hurricane Andrew in 1992. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that the drought bill for the South Florida Water District so far is $3.5 million of the $7.8 million designated by the district's board to cope with the water shortage, and the district might have to spend $9.5 million by Sept. 30.
